John Burton, born June 8, 1949, in San Francisco, California, specializes in Civil Litigation, with emphasis in Legal Malpractice Litigation, Professional Liability Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, Personal Injury Litigation arising from Motor Vehicle Accidents, Premises Liability and Products Liability, Construction Defect and General Civil Litigation. Mr. Burton has tried in excess of 40 jury trials in these areas of emphasis in courts throughout Northern California. Mr. Burton was the prevailing appellate attorney in Atkinson v. Elk Corporation, a case of first impression in the State of California interpreting the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act in the context of a claim of defective roofing shingles.

Mr. Burton received his Bachelors Degree from Santa Clara University in 1971, and his Juris Doctorate, Summa Cum Laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1974.

Mr. Burton is a member of the State Bar of California (admitted in 1974) and various Federal bars, as well as a member of the following organizations: Santa Cruz County Bar Association, Monterey County Bar Association, Santa Clara County Bar Association, and Northern California Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Burton also serves as Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Cruz County Superior Court and is frequently retained as Arbitrator and Mediator by plaintiff and defense attorneys in litigation matters pending in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Clara Counties.

Mr. Burton is married and his wife, Joanne, was recently honored as "Volunteer of the Year" by two local organizations as a result of her efforts in leading the "Save the Music" campaign on behalf of Aptos area schools and in the construction of an all-weather track at Aptos High School. He is the father of one son, a writer now living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and stepfather of a daughter who is attending Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, and twins, a son and daughter, who are attending Aptos High School. A former participant in triathalons, Mr. Burton still enjoys keeping physically fit by regular gym work-outs and swimming and enjoys all of the major sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer).
