Burleigh E. Sabin

Burleigh Sabin was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1974, and received his undergraduate degree, with Honors, at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He received his Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law, San Diego, in 2005. As a first year law student, Mr. Sabin earned the Manuel E. Wiley Award from the State Bar of California for voluntary provisions to the poor for his work as an intern with the California Innocence Project. As a second year law student, Mr. Sabin was selected as an Honors Writing Instructor at California Western and worked as a Teaching Assistant in American Legal History at the University of California, San Diego. Mr. Sabin is also a member of California Western School of Law Pro Bono Honors Society.

Mr. Sabin has studied comparative law in Paris, France, with both the Tulane University School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Law, successfully completing the Institute on International and Comparative Law in Paris. Mr. Sabin is also a member of the Santa Cruz County Bar Association and licensed to practice in the United States District Court, Northern District of California.

Mr. Sabin was admitted to the California Bar in 2007 and joined Burton, Volkmann, & Schmal, LLP, in July 2007. While at the firm, Mr. Sabin has handled cases involving areas of general defense litigation, including Tort Liability, Government Tort Liability, and Contract Disputes.

Mr. Sabin is an avid cyclist, runner, surfer, and volleyball player. Mr. Sabin also enjoys traveling, carpentry, and sailing out of the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. He also is a proud years-long volunteer to the Ride-A-Wave Foundation, a program that provides disabled persons the opportunity to surf, boogie board, and kayak.
